Michael Vatikiotis, writer, broadcaster, journalist and private diplomat in Asia for the past 40 years, brings a powerful new book: The Salamander's Tail, inspired by four decades of journalistic and diplomatic experience covering conflict in Asia. The novel follows Lance Friend, an English altruist working for an environmental organisation in Chiang Mai, who finds himself caught in a high-stakes geopolitical contest between the United States and China. Vatikiotis takes readers on a journey with a vast array of characters escaping past lives to pursue ideals, adventure and profit in the badlands of Southeast Asia.
