NARI - Fire Influenced Bistro

This book follows Captain Bligh's second breadfruit mission, this time carrying a mysterious Tahitian stowaway tasked with keeping the plantlings alive, a man whose obituary strangely appears in Jamaica's Royal Gazette within months of his arrival. Set against Jamaica in 1792, as the Apprenticeship system ends and the formerly enslaved build new settlements amid ongoing tensions and injustice, it follows Quashie and his grandfather as they travel to spread word about breadfruit, while unravelling the story of a Tahitian friend whose desire for vengeance carried him halfway around the world. Michael Morrissey's imaginative exploration moves between eighteenth-century Tahiti and nineteenth-century Jamaica, filling in the gaps left by an official history, and telling a story of love, resistance, and the colonial-era obsession with a single, humble fruit.
