Nasir Tamara is an Indonesian independent scholar and journalist, born in Kalianda, Lampung. He earned his doctorate in History and Anthropology from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, after studying journalism on a French scholarship and completing master's degrees in political science and anthropology at the Sorbonne. He co-founded Republika newspaper, Capital magazine, and Global TV, and has written, translated, or edited over 50 books, including Indonesia Rising: Islam, Democracy and the Rise of Indonesia. He has taught at Gadjah Mada University, the University of Indonesia, and SOAS London, served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and the Asia Research Institute in Singapore, and held fellowships at Harvard, Georgetown, the East-West Center/University of Hawaiʻi, and Oxford.

Nasir Tamara adalah cendekiawan independen dan jurnalis asal Indonesia, lahir di Kalianda, Lampung. Ia meraih gelar doktor Sejarah dan Antropologi dari École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales di Paris, setelah belajar jurnalistik melalui beasiswa Prancis dan menyelesaikan gelar S-2 di bidang ilmu politik dan antropologi di Sorbonne. Ia turut mendirikan harian Republika, majalah Capital, dan Global TV, serta menulis, menerjemahkan, atau menyunting lebih dari 50 buku, di antaranya Indonesia Rising: Islam, Democracy and the Rise of Indonesia. Ia pernah mengajar di Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, dan SOAS London, menjabat sebagai Senior Research Fellow di Institute of Southeast Asian Studies dan Asia Research Institute di Singapura, serta menjadi fellow di Harvard University, Georgetown University, East-West Center/University of Hawaiʻi, dan Oxford University.
